Icelynn Scott, 12th Grade

I am Icelynn Scott. I’m 17 and live in Aurora with my mom and two younger brothers. I am a senior at East Aurora High School. My favorite hobbies are watching TV, writing, and playing volleyball. I am a member of Dubois African American Honor Society. Through this program, we talk about and engage culture as it relates to being African American. We also talk about our grades and plan activities that get us out of the house.

I have been coming to camp at FVCA since I was 6 years old. My summer camp experiences were always enjoyable. This summer was exciting. The Crossover Leadership Development Program (CLDP) provided exciting opportunities like college and career visits. I liked the career visit to Fermilab because it is a science place and chemistry is my second favorite subject, next to history. This summer CLDP helped strengthen me and grow closer with the Holy Spirit.

This is my third school year participating in Teen Night Together (TNT). At TNT I learned the difference between knowing God and knowing about Him. My favorite activity is joining together playing games. We all come together as a whole and actually enjoy ourselves before we break into small groups to learn about Jesus. This school year I am looking forward to knowing and understanding God a little bit more and letting my mind wonder through the words of Jesus Christ. I have learned the meaning of God and the purpose of praising God, who I have never seen. But I know He is here because I have a feeling in my heart.

I work at Goodwill. I want to go to Clark-Atlanta University and study criminal justice. I want to be a guard in the prison. I was inspired because my mom went to school to be a probation officer.

At FVCA I have nothing but good times, it’s like a family I never had. I always enjoy myself here and have fun. I also try new things here that I have never done before, so that is exciting!
